Multi-disciplined artists R. Alan Brooks and Charlie LaGreca discuss ways to use art as protest, and to help effect social change. Alan and Charlie are noted for their activism, and are both accomplished in a variety of artistic disciplines, so they'll be sharing many of their methods for reaching people through art. Join them for this discussion, and bring your questions!
Charlie LaGreca is a cartoonist, performer, producer, and Artivist. He is the founder of Denver Comic Con as well as, DINK (the Denver Independent Comics and Art Expo), which garnered Westword's Best of Denver award. Charlie has also co-created the educational comic book series, Environmental Justice Chronicles for CUNY Law School and the EPA. Charlie along with his brother, Jeff, also created the Off-Broadway musical Minimum Wage, which won the FringeNYC Producer's Circle award and Backstage Bistro Award. He also plays in his own nerd rock band, H2Awesome! and is part of our team here at Arise!
R. Alan Brooks hosts the popular “MotherF**ker In A Cape” comics podcast, which focuses on marginalized members of the geek world. Alan writes educational children’s comics for Pop Culture Classroom (the non-profit that stages Denver Comic Con), and is also the writer/creator of “The Burning Metronome” graphic novel, a supernatural murder mystery with social commentary. In addition, Alan is a noted stage host; regularly emceeing celebrated events, like the DINKys Award Show and the main stage at Arise Music Festival.
